1 09 2016

I love the old Theatre Magazines with beautiful covers of early actors  and actresses on the stage and descriptions of their plays. This Blog is dedicated to all that have gone before us.

First Play Given Before We Leave on Our Journey

4 01 2009

My cabin on the SSVulcania will be full of actors and actresses. They will be busy putting on their make-up and making sure their costumes are in order. One member of our group is not an actress, but has attended many plays in NY City from 1903 to 1909. She kept all of her playbills in a scrapbook. I will show you many of the plays she saw and we will learn more about the fine performers of this era too.
Our first performance is in honor of the day we are leaving.
Viola Allen will act in “Twelfth Night” by William Shakespeare.
I have some pictures from the play that were in an issue of THEATRE MAGAZINE April 1904
I will use pictures whenever possible to give more life to the plays.
Here is a link for a synopsis of the play.
